Overview |

 | Located a 5 minutes walk to US ferries, the ocean and Victoria's major attractions. "Ryan's" was built in 1892 by one of the city's biggest merchants as a wedding gift to his bride. Ryan's B&B is situated on a large private garden site and featuring spectacular architectural details inside and outside. | | This spectacular mansion was born in romance. Build by a local merchant as a wedding gift for his son who had just returned from England with a new bride it features original fireplaces and spectacular architectural detailing, panelled walls with 11 ft. ceilings, private entrances, patios and balconies, gardens, peace and tranquillity. They didnt have Jacuzzis back then, but we added them anyway. We want your stay at Ryans to be the crowning touch to your romantic stay in Victoria. | | All rooms are capacious with private baths, some with Jacuzzis, some with claw-footed soaker-tubs, and some provide private balconies or separate entrances. All have refrigerators, luxurious linens, comforters, robes, and TVs and VCRs. Early morning newspapers and coffees are on hand Ryan's is ideal for honeymooners or for weddings, or most fetes. Functions can be held outdoors in the Rose Arbour or inside in the Peacock Parlor. | | Served daily by the fireplace from a nine-foot high solid oak sideboard, breakfasts offer a variety of tasty dishes : Tuscan frittatas, lemon risotta pancakes, smoked salmon scambles, and breads from Continental recipes. All food is made and served fresh and using local ingredients. |

A short stroll through neighbouring tree-lined streets provides a fascinating trip into history. The James Bay district has become a microcosm of Victoria's two centuries of settlement from Aboriginal Long Houses with totem poles, through the Victorian, Edwardian and modern styles of the 20's cottages and the 30's. This came about because the settlement is surrounded by ocean or by the Parliament Buildings. There was no place to spread. Hemmed in on all sides, James Bay changed with the times within its precincts. Ryan's is a paramount example of its Victorian era. |
